Are we there yet ?

«Ten years ago, at the end of her seven-year tenure as chief film censor, Janet Strickland told the [Sydney Morning] Herald we were entering a period of social conservatism and predicted that by the mid-1990s the climate of censorship would be stronger than it had been for three decades.

‘It’s undoubtedly so,’ Strickland says today. ‘I think that’s exactly what has happened. And it’s speeding up. It’s going to get worse. God knows what kind of society we’ll be living in in 10 years’ time. It could be like Victorian times again, with all the hypocrisy and double standards.'»
